Don’t Go It Alone: Why Legal Support Matters in Family Court

September 13, 2025 by Annie

Family court can make even the strongest person feel small. Between the legal terms, tight deadlines, emotional testimony, and the sheer weight of what’s at stake, it’s easy to feel like you’re standing alone in a storm. Some folks believe they can walk into court thinking they can handle it solo, either because of budget concerns, pride, or the mistaken belief that “telling the truth” is enough to carry the day.

Here’s what we know from walking this path with countless clients: you don’t get extra points for going it alone, and it can reflect poorly if you are inexperienced in the legal field. Family law isn’t a field where you’re expected to figure it out on your own. Trying to do so can leave you more vulnerable, less protected, and more emotionally drained than you ever expected.

You deserve more than survival. You deserve support. Let’s break down why having experienced legal counsel by your side can make all the difference, not just in the outcome of your case, but in your peace of mind along the way.

⚖️ The Law Is a System, Not a Story

You might know your situation inside and out. You’ve lived the late-night arguments, the custody hand-offs, the financial strain. In court, it’s not just your story that matters. It’s how that story is presented within a specific legal structure. Family law is filled with rules, filing requirements, local procedures, and courtroom expectations that don’t always make room for personal context unless it’s properly framed.

A judge isn’t there to read between the lines. They’re there to apply the law to the facts as they’re presented, legally, and without bias. That means if something is missed, submitted improperly, or shared too late, it may not be considered at all, even if it feels critical to you.

When you have legal representation, your rule nisi attorney does more than just argue on your behalf. They help translate your real-life experience into legally relevant claims. They highlight what will matter to the court and help you avoid focusing on what won’t. It’s not just strategy. The judge has a full docket. Streamlining the core parts of the case not only helps your case but also builds credibility for respecting the judge’s strict schedule.

🧭 A Lawyer Does More Than Speak for You — They Steady You

Legal support is about so much more than knowing what paperwork to file or what to say when your name is called. A good family law attorney becomes a steady guide through moments where the emotional and legal collide. They’ll tell you when to speak, when to stay quiet, when to push back, and when to let the record speak for itself.

An attorney acts as your shield when the other party plays games. They step in when the other side’s attorney tries to provoke you. They carry the weight of procedure so you can focus on what matters: your kids, your stability, your healing, your future.

Without that buffer, you’re not just doing the legal work. You’re carrying all the emotional weight, and trying to decode a language you weren’t trained to speak. That’s too much to ask of anyone, especially when everything you care about is on the line.

💰 Self-Representation Can Cost You More Than You Think

We understand that legal help costs money. For many people, that feels like a dealbreaker. Here’s the truth: Going to court without legal support often leads to outcomes that cost far more in the long run.

Without an attorney, you may:

  • Missed key filing deadlines that delay or derail your case.
  • Agree to terms that aren’t in your best interest or your child’s.
  • Fail to present evidence correctly and lose the chance to have it considered.
  • Make decisions under pressure that hurt your long-term finances or parenting time.
  • Spend thousands later trying to fix what could’ve been addressed properly from the start.

Family court judges are bound to apply the law as written. They can’t give legal advice, even if they see a mistake coming. Their role is to remain neutral, not to correct missteps or guide anyone through the process. That means good people, with good intentions, can still walk away with outcomes that don’t reflect their truth simply because they didn’t know how to protect it.

When you invest in legal support, you’re not just paying for paperwork. You’re securing peace of mind. You’re giving yourself a teammate who understands the rules of the courtroom and how to use them in your favor. It’s not just about having someone “speak legal.” It’s about having someone who sees the full picture and helps you carry the emotional, logistical, and legal weight so you don’t have to do it all alone.

🤝 The Right Legal Support Brings Peace, Not Just Strategy

Legal help is more than just a case strategy; it’s emotional steadiness. With the right attorney, you gain not only a plan but a person who walks with you through one of the most challenging chapters of your life. You’re no longer sitting up at night wondering if you filed the right forms. You’re not alone in making difficult decisions under pressure. You’re not trying to learn the law while grieving a breakup or fighting for your child’s best interest.

With someone by your side, you can ask questions, get real answers, and build clarity where there was once confusion. Courage, especially in the field of law, is not trudging through it all alone; it’s when you are brave enough to ask for help. At the Harris Firm, we don’t just represent you. We stand with you. We meet you where you are, listen with compassion, and offer steady, experienced guidance through every step of the journey.

💬 You Deserve Support and That’s What We Provide

We’ve walked you through the entire courtroom journey, from the moment you start preparing to the moment the judge delivers a ruling. We’ve talked about how to carry yourself, how to speak with clarity, how to emotionally ground yourself before a hearing, and how to organize evidence that speaks louder than frustration ever could. More than anything, we’ve focused on helping you feel prepared, not just with paperwork, but with presence. Now, we’ll leave you with this: no matter how hard the road has been, or how heavy the day in court may feel, you deserve to be fully seen and fully supported through the process. Family law exposes the most important parts of your life: your children, your safety, your finances, and your identity, for the court to see. That’s not something to navigate with guesswork or Google tabs. It’s something to walk through with someone who understands both the legal system and the emotional weight of the moment. That’s where we enter. With the Harris Firm’s wealth of knowledge and commitment, you’ll have the support you need to enter that courtroom with everything you need to defend your family’s future.

How to Avoid Hidden Costs When Moving Long Distance in 2025

February 28, 2025 by Annie

Moving long distances can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially with record numbers still moving out of New Zealand. While most people account for major expenses like packing materials and transportation, unexpected costs can quickly add up, turning a well-planned move into a financial strain. By identifying these hidden expenses early, you can budget effectively and ensure a smooth, stress-free transition. Here’s how to avoid hidden costs when relocating in 2025.

1. Understanding the Full Cost of Moving Services

Hiring professional movers, such as Crown Relocations, can simplify your long-distance move, but it’s essential to understand what’s included in their quoted price. Some moving companies may offer a base rate that does not cover additional services such as:

  • Packing and unpacking fees – If you require professional packing assistance, ensure this is included in your estimate.

  • Storage fees – If there’s a delay between leaving your old home and moving into your new one, temporary storage may come at an extra cost.

  • Fuel surcharges – Long-distance moves often involve high fuel costs, which some companies pass on to customers as an additional charge.

  • Customs and duties (for international moves) – If you’re moving abroad, research potential import taxes and duties that may apply to your belongings.

2. Be Aware of Extra Charges for Specialty Items

If you have large or fragile items like pianos, antiques, or delicate artwork, many moving companies may charge extra to handle them carefully. These items often require special equipment, packing materials, or extra team members to ensure safe transport. To avoid surprises on moving day, discuss specialty items with your movers in advance. Sharing details helps them prepare and provide an accurate quote, making your move smoother and stress-free.

3. Plan for Utility Connection and Disconnection Fees

Many people forget about the cost of disconnecting and reconnecting utilities when moving. Some service providers charge:

  • Early termination fees for breaking a contract early.

  • Connection fees when setting up electricity, petrol, or internet in your new home.

  • Potential deposits for new accounts, especially if moving to a new country or state.

4. Factor in Insurance and Liability Coverage

Professional movers usually provide basic liability coverage, but it often only covers a small fraction of your belongings’ value and may not replace valuable or sentimental items. This is especially important if you’re moving high-value items like electronics, antiques, or artwork.

For added peace of mind, consider additional moving insurance, which offers more comprehensive protection. This is especially important for international moves, where your belongings face longer transit times, multiple handlers, and varying shipping conditions. The right insurance can help protect your items and make your move less stressful.

5. Budget for Travel and Accommodation Costs

If you’re driving to your new destination, don’t forget about expenses such as:

  • Fuel costs, which can vary significantly depending on your location, the time of year, and changes in petrol prices. It’s important to budget for these fluctuations, especially for long trips.

  • Hotel stays, which may be necessary if your journey spans multiple days. The cost will depend on the type of accommodation you choose and its location, so planning ahead can help you save.

  • Food expenses along the way, including meals at restaurants, snacks for the road, or any other dining costs. Preparing your own food can help reduce these expenses.

For international relocations, airfare and temporary lodging upon arrival should also be factored into your budget.

6. Avoid Last-Minute Moving Expenses

Procrastination can be costly. Last-minute packing materials, urgent transportation, and express shipping fees can all add up quickly. To avoid unnecessary expenses:

  • Plan and book your move early to secure better rates.

  • Declutter before moving to reduce the volume of items you need to transport.

  • Use free or recycled packing materials whenever possible.

7. Check for Tax Deductions and Employer Assistance

Some long-distance moves may qualify for relocation assistance, especially if you’re moving for work. Many employers offer packages that cover moving costs, temporary housing, or lump-sum payments. Check with your HR department to see what support is available before committing financially.

New Zealand doesn’t currently offer tax deductions for moving expenses, but some countries do. If you’re relocating overseas, check if your new country allows deductions for costs like transport, storage, or temporary housing. Knowing your entitlements and planning ahead can help lower the cost of your move.

Final Thoughts

Relocating long distances can be a costly process, but with careful planning and awareness, you can avoid hidden expenses and make your move as stress-free as possible. By selecting a trusted moving company, understanding potential additional costs, and budgeting for the unexpected, you can ensure a smooth and financially manageable move in 2025.

How To Deal With Unexpected Surprises During Your Move

November 25, 2024 by Annie

Moving can be an exciting yet challenging experience. Even with meticulous planning, surprises can arise, turning your organised move into a stressful ordeal. From sudden weather changes to misplaced items, knowing how to handle these hurdles is essential for a smooth transition. This guide will provide practical tips to help you tackle unforeseen challenges during your move.

Anticipate and Prepare for the Unexpected

The best way to manage surprises is to plan for them. Start by creating a contingency plan for common issues like delays, damaged items, or bad weather. For instance, pack an emergency kit with essentials such as toiletries, chargers, snacks, and important documents in case your belongings are delayed. Being proactive reduces the impact of unexpected events.

Protect Your Belongings with Insurance

One of the most effective ways to safeguard your move is to get moving insurance coverage. Moving insurance provides financial protection against potential damages or losses during transit. Whether it’s a broken piece of furniture or misplaced boxes, having insurance ensures you’re not left to bear the cost alone. Speak to your moving company to understand the coverage options available and select one that suits your needs.

Hire Experienced Movers

Experienced movers are more adept at handling surprises than DIY approaches. Professional moving companies have protocols in place for common issues such as logistical delays or heavy lifting challenges. Research and hire movers with a proven track record of reliability and customer satisfaction. Read reviews, compare quotes, and ensure they offer additional services like storage or unpacking, should the need arise.

Plan for Weather-Related Delays

Weather can be unpredictable, especially in New Zealand’s diverse climate. Stay informed by checking forecasts through reliable sources like MetService, which provides up-to-date weather alerts and conditions. Prepare for rain, wind, or heat by using waterproof packing materials and sturdy boxes. For heavy rain, request movers to bring floor protection to avoid muddying your new home. If severe weather is forecasted, use the forecast information to contact your moving company and reschedule or adjust plans accordingly.

Keep an Inventory of Your Items

Maintaining an inventory list of all your belongings helps prevent confusion and misplaced items. Use digital tools or apps to photograph and document each box, noting its contents and destination room. An inventory list also streamlines the unpacking process and makes it easier to verify everything has arrived safely.

Prepare for Access Challenges

Unexpected obstacles like narrow doorways, steep driveways, or insufficient parking can complicate the move. If you’re aware of potential access issues at your new home, notify your movers in advance. They may need specialised equipment or additional staff to navigate the space efficiently.

Budget for Hidden Costs

Moves often come with unanticipated expenses, such as extra packing materials, last-minute supplies, or extended storage needs. To avoid financial strain, set aside a contingency fund for such costs. This ensures you’re not caught off guard by additional expenses, making the process less stressful.

Communicate with Movers and Stakeholders

Open communication is key to managing surprises. Keep your movers informed about any last-minute changes, such as revised schedules or additional items. Additionally, notify utility providers, landlords, or real estate agents promptly if issues arise at your new or old property.

Take Care of Fragile and Valuable Items

Transporting fragile or high-value items requires extra attention. Pack these items separately using shock-resistant packaging to minimise the risk of damage. If possible, transport them yourself to ensure their safety. Professional movers often offer specialised services for handling delicate items, so discuss these options beforehand.

Stay Calm and Flexible

Finally, remember that no move is without its hiccups. Stay calm and adaptable when things don’t go as planned. Having a backup plan and focusing on problem-solving will help you navigate challenges effectively. Treat unexpected surprises as opportunities to refine your planning and approach the experience with a positive mindset.

Takeaway

Dealing with unexpected surprises during your move doesn’t have to derail the process. By preparing in advance, protecting your belongings, and working with experienced movers, you can handle challenges with confidence. For peace of mind, be sure to get insurance, so you’re prepared for any bumps along the way. With the right mindset and planning, your move can still be a smooth and successful experience.

7 Warning Signs Your Heater Needs Immediate Repair

October 28, 2024 by Annie

When the cold weather hits, having a functioning heater is more than a luxury—it’s essential for keeping your home comfortable and safe. But how can you tell when your heater is on the verge of breaking down? There are a few warning signs that indicate your heater needs immediate repair. Ignoring these issues could lead to more expensive repairs down the line, or worse, a complete system failure.

Here are seven key signs to watch for.

1. Unusual Noises Coming from the Heater

It’s normal for heaters to make a little noise when they start up or shut down, but any loud, unusual sounds should catch your attention. Different noises can indicate specific issues:

  • Banging or clanging: This could mean that there’s a loose or broken part in the system. Components like the blower fan or motor might have shifted or become detached, leading to the loud clatter.
  • Squealing or screeching: A high-pitched squeal is often a sign of an issue with the blower belt or motor. Over time, belts can fray or slip, or motors can wear out, leading to this noise. Ignoring this sound could lead to a complete motor failure.
  • Rattling: If you hear rattling, it might be due to loose screws, panels, or ducts. While this may seem minor, loose parts can cause further damage to your system, so it’s best to have it checked out.
  • Booming: A loud boom, especially in gas furnaces, could indicate delayed ignition. This happens when gas builds up in the combustion chamber before igniting, which can cause mini-explosions. This can be dangerous and should be addressed immediately.

Strange noises are usually the first sign that something isn’t right, and getting them checked early can prevent more significant issues from developing.

2. Uneven Heating Throughout Your Home

If certain rooms in your house are too hot while others are too cold, your heater may be struggling to distribute heat evenly. Uneven heating can be caused by a variety of problems:

  • Ductwork issues: Leaky or poorly insulated ducts can lose heat as it travel through your home, leading to cold spots in certain rooms.
  • Thermostat problems: A malfunctioning thermostat may not be reading temperatures correctly, causing your heater to work inefficiently. For example, it might signal the heater to shut off too early, leaving some areas of your home unheated.
  • Inadequate system size: If your heating system is too small or too large for your home, it won’t be able to regulate temperatures effectively. An undersized system will struggle to keep up, while an oversized one will cycle on and off too quickly, leading to inconsistent heating.

If you notice that your heater isn’t warming your home evenly, it’s a sign that something needs attention.

3. Increasing Energy Bills Without Explanation

If your energy bills are climbing but your usage hasn’t changed, your heater could be the culprit. An inefficient heater has to work harder to provide the same amount of warmth, using more energy in the process.

  • Clogged filters: One common cause of increased energy consumption is a clogged or dirty air filter. When the filter is full of dust and debris, airflow is restricted, forcing the system to work harder to circulate warm air. Changing the filter regularly can help maintain efficiency.
  • Malfunctioning components: Worn-out parts, like a failing blower motor or malfunctioning thermostat, can also cause your heater to work harder than it should. These parts may need to be repaired or replaced to restore efficiency.
  • Old system: If your heater is more than 15 years old, it might simply be wearing out. Older systems naturally become less efficient over time, and upgrading to a newer model could save you money on energy bills in the long run.

Keeping an eye on your energy bills can provide an early warning that your heater isn’t working as it should.

4. Short Cycling

Short cycling occurs when your heater turns on and off rapidly without completing a full heating cycle. This is a major red flag that your heater needs immediate repair.

  • Overheating: One common cause of short cycling is overheating. When a system overheats, it shuts down to prevent damage. This is often caused by restricted airflow, dirty air filters, or blocked vents.
  • Thermostat issues: If your thermostat is faulty, it may be sending incorrect signals to your heater, causing it to cycle on and off frequently. It could also be placed in an area that gives it false readings, such as near a window or draft.
  • Oversized system: If your heater is too large for your home, it will heat the space too quickly and shut off before completing a full cycle. This constant starting and stopping puts extra strain on the system and can lead to breakdowns.

Short cycling can cause significant wear and tear on your heater, reducing its lifespan and increasing the likelihood of a breakdown.

5. Yellow or Flickering Burner Flame

For gas furnaces, the burner flame should burn a steady blue. A yellow or flickering flame can indicate a serious problem, such as incomplete combustion.

  • Carbon monoxide risk: A yellow flame could be a sign that the furnace isn’t burning fuel properly, which can lead to carbon monoxide buildup. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly if inhaled in large amounts. It’s crucial to have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home and to address any issues with your furnace immediately.
  • Dirty burners: A yellow flame could also indicate that the burners are dirty or clogged. This prevents the furnace from burning gas efficiently and could lead to more serious problems if not addressed.

If you notice a yellow or flickering flame, it’s best to have a professional inspect your furnace to ensure there’s no danger of a carbon monoxide leak.

6. Strange Smells Coming from the Heater

It’s normal to smell a slight burning odor the first time you turn on your heater in the fall. This is just dust burning off the heat exchanger after months of disuse. However, any persistent or strong odors coming from your heater are cause for concern.

  • Burning smell: A constant burning smell could indicate that components within the heater are overheating. Overheating can lead to more serious damage and even pose a fire risk if not addressed promptly.
  • Rotten egg smell: A sulfuric, rotten egg odor is a sign of a gas leak. Gas leaks are extremely dangerous and need to be dealt with immediately. If you smell gas, leave your home and contact your utility company right away.
  • Musty or moldy smell: A musty odor may indicate mold or mildew growth within your ductwork or heater. This can impact your home’s indoor air quality and cause health issues for those with allergies or respiratory problems.

Any unusual smell coming from your heater should be checked by a professional to ensure your system is operating safely.

7. Poor Airflow

If you’ve noticed weak or minimal airflow coming from your vents, it could be a sign of a serious issue with your heating system. Poor airflow can make it difficult to heat your home properly, leading to cold spots and discomfort.

  • Clogged filters: As mentioned earlier, dirty air filters can restrict airflow, making it harder for your heater to circulate warm air throughout your home. Changing your filter regularly can help prevent this issue.
  • Ductwork problems: Leaky or blocked ducts can also reduce airflow, as air escapes before reaching its destination. Ductwork issues should be inspected and repaired by a professional to ensure efficient heating.
  • Blower motor issues: If the blower motor is failing, it won’t be able to push air through your ducts effectively. This can cause weak airflow and uneven heating throughout your home.

Poor airflow not only makes your home less comfortable, but it also puts extra strain on your heater, leading to higher energy bills and potential system failure.

By keeping an eye out for these warning signs, you can catch potential problems early and avoid costly repairs or a complete system breakdown. Heaters, like all mechanical systems, require regular maintenance to function efficiently and safely. If you experience any of these issues, don’t wait until your heater fails completely — getting prompt repairs can save you money and ensure your home stays warm during the cold months.

C60 in Sports Nutrition:Recovery and Performance

December 22, 2023 by Annie

In the world of sports and athletics, athletes are constantly seeking ways to enhance their performance and optimize their recovery. One emerging compound that has piqued the interest of many in the sports and fitness community is C60, or Carbon 60. C60 is a molecule composed of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a spherical cage-like structure, often referred to as a fullerene. While the research on C60 is still in its early stages, there is growing excitement about its potential benefits in sports nutrition for boosting recovery and performance.

Carbon 60, or C60, has gained significant attention in recent years due to its unique chemical structure and potential health benefits. Discovered in 1985 by a group of scientists, C60 is a spherical carbon molecule made up of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a soccer ball-like structure. It has remarkable antioxidant properties, which means it can neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, thereby reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.

Oxidative stress and inflammation are common challenges for athletes. The intense physical exertion and training that athletes undergo can lead to an increase in free radicals and oxidative damage. This oxidative stress can result in muscle fatigue, soreness, and delayed recovery. C60, with its powerful antioxidant properties, has the potential to mitigate these issues and promote better recovery and performance.

Boosting Recovery with C60

One of the primary ways C60 may benefit athletes is by enhancing the recovery process. After strenuous workouts or competitions, athletes often experience muscle soreness and inflammation, which can slow down the recovery process. Here’s how C60 may help:

Selecting high-quality C60 products from reputable brands is equally crucial. Third-party testing and certification can provide the assurance needed to trust the purity and safety of the supplements chosen. Starting with lower dosages and monitoring individual responses is a prudent practice, as is heeding any signs of adverse effects, which, though rare, should be addressed promptly.

Carbon 60, or C60, has emerged as a potential game-changer in sports nutrition. With its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, C60 may help athletes recover more quickly from workouts, reduce muscle soreness, and support overall performance. While the research on C60 is still in its infancy, the preliminary findings are promising, and many athletes are eager to explore its potential benefits.

C60 is making waves in sports nutrition, offering promising benefits for recovery and performance enhancement. Whether you’re an athlete or just curious, it’s always good to know how longs a furlong when talking sports.

Different Doctor Options When Kids Get Sick

September 2, 2022 by Annie

That’s just one of the many hilarious ironies of being a parent!

There are many opportunities for young children to contract infectious diseases due to their proximity to several sources of contamination. Still, it might be a significant hassle to locate a doctor willing to treat them.

Becoming a parent can give the impression that you have access to an infinite pool of medical professionals whenever you have a question or concern!

However, things get complicated when your child contracts a bug for the eighth time, and you need someone to look into it! Here are various options where you can seek professional children’s healthcare advice.

Option 1: Online or Phone Call Consultation

To obtain much-needed mental development without leaving the house, pick up the phone and call your favorite children’s specialists.

On the other hand, if you cannot visually inspect a problem, it can be challenging to diagnose the cause. Because of this, the nurse will frequently recommend that the patient consult a physician. The most unfortunate aspect is that you must visit a medical professional once instructed.

Unfortunately, your only options are to go to the emergency department or phone the home doctor when it’s the middle of the night.

Option 2: At-Home Physician

It is a helpful alternative to going to the ER when you need immediate medical attention, but it’s not life-threatening. House call doctor may help with minor problems, but they can only do so much thanks to the tools they carry in their briefcases.

It is not uncommon for people to end up in the ER when their regular doctor is closed and the Home Doctor cannot help.

Option 3: Medical Practitioner Who Treats Patients Generally

The results of seeing a primary care physician vary widely. You don’t need to be knowledgeable about working with children to succeed in general practice.

So it’s no surprise that some doctors don’t have the bedside demeanor, tolerance, or compassion for dealing with sick youngsters that the job requires.

When poked and prodded, toddlers, in particular, have a reputation for being combative and disobedient.

Some primary care physicians aren’t up to date on the latest childhood ailments, which is a problem. Sometimes it’s necessary to treat children as if they were a whole different species than adults. Viruses like Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease, Slap Cheek, and many others are common among children but aren’t usually something adults should worry about.

Option 4: Pediatrician

Fantastic people, pediatricians. They focus solely on pediatric patients, and their expertise covers everything from pediatric illness to pediatric behavioral problems. Their offices are equipped with toys, bright colors, and anything else that might help distract a child from the icy-pole stick being crammed down their throat, and they have received special training to work with children.

Due to their expertise, they are the best choice when you must devote time to fixing a specific problem at each appointment.

That’s the rub, right? They are specialists, so you’ll need a referral to visit them, and even then, you might have to wait a long time. By choosing private treatment, you can avoid some of the lengthy wait times if you’re ready to pay extra up ahead. It is a challenge if your child is ill right now and has to be seen by a doctor on the same day.

Option 5: Urgent Care (at a hospital with a pediatric section)

The hospital may be your only option when your child is sick and needs medical attention.

Typically, this entails dragging your children out in the middle of the night and into the cold to wait in a waiting room for six hours or more. In addition, you are typically crammed into a room without adequate ventilation with dozens of other children, all coughing and vomiting their strain of the plague.

Your child will feel even worse than they do right now if you drag them out of bed and force them to sit in the waiting room of the emergency room for hours on end. You better have a solid data plan because YouTube will be your only companion during the delay.

Tips on Selecting the Best Doctor for Your Kids

  • Choose a doctor who works well with your loved ones

There are many things to figure out when you’re expecting a child. Choosing a doctor is a crucial step in caring for your newborn. It’s critical to find a pediatrician who works well with you and your family, as he or she will be a long-term partner in your child’s health.

  • Start looking for your child’s doctor before giving birth

Finding a child doctor should ideally begin around three months before the expected due date. You’ll be exhausted and have a lot on your plate after the kid is here, so it’s best to find a doctor as soon as possible.

  • Consider known medical professionals in your area

Obtain the names of some highly regarded medical professionals, and you may ask your OB-GYN, family, friends, co-workers, etc. There might be hundreds of doctors in your area, and you can narrow your search based on criteria like geography, gender, and location of expertise. Schedule an appointment with your chosen physician online and see their ratings and reviews written by actual patients.

  • Check the Insurance Accreditation

Make sure your health insurance accepts the doctors on your list by calling them first. Determine the cost-sharing that will be expected of you. It will save you from paying extra costs for your kid’s medical needs.

Top 7 Truck Bed Covers & Why You Need One This Summer

June 22, 2021 by Annie

When you’re cruising down the highway in your truck, you need a truck bed cover to keep your bed’s contents safe. Whether you’re heading out on a camping trip or leaving for work, here’s your guide to the top seven tonneau covers for the summer.

1. BAK BakFLIP MX4

This folding cover comes in matte-black and folds into three sections for easy loading. With protective coatings that prevent scratches and UV radiation damage, this cover is sure to last. It’s also a  lockable tonneau cover, so you don’t need to worry about anyone taking your belongings during a rest stop.

2. Truxedo Truxport

This Silverado tonneau cover roll-up is easy to use, with Velcro straps securing the cover to your bed’s rails. Experienced users take under 30 seconds to roll up this cover, so you don’t need to worry about long delays. It’s weather-resistant, but make sure it’s dry before you roll it up so that the rainwater doesn’t fall into your bed.

3. Tonnopro Tonnofold

This tri-folding cover expands and collapses based on how much gear you need to store. It’s aerodynamic, so it doesn’t interfere with your turns or speed. The frame is made of powder-coated aluminum, so it’s sure to last even during the harshest weather.

4. Pace Edwards Switchblade

This tonneau cover is retractable, allowing you to maximize space in your bed. It also boasts some of the top security measures for truck bed covers, with aluminum in the frame and cover for enhanced protection.

5. Extang Trifecta 2.0

If you don’t need a hard cover, consider the Extang Trifecta 2.0. This soft cover folds into three segments and is made of canvas or specially treated fabric. The aluminum frame holds the fabric taught, keeping your gear dry and safe.

6. Retrax RetraxPro MX

Make your tonneau cover stand out from the rest with this high-quality cover. It’s strong enough to support 500 pounds, and it has a UV radiation protective coating, so you don’t need to worry about the matte-black finish fading. This cover is lockable and it’s compatible with hitches, so if you’re taking your camper or trailer, this cover is your best bet.

7. Rough Country Low Profile

This aluminum folding cover includes rubber seals so that your gear or groceries stay completely dry during storms. It comes with securable rods that lift up your cover in case your gear is too tall for its original height, which is flush with the bed.

Why Do You Need a Tonneau Cover?

Without a truck bed cover, your bed’s contents are exposed to the elements and thieves. In the summer, storms get harsher and you spend more time on vacation, so there are more opportunities to lose your tools, luggage, or fishing supplies. Just as you need to purchase new weather mats for cars, investing in a high-quality tonneau cover is a necessity for the summer.

Keep your belongings safe and dry by choosing one of these tonneau covers for your truck before the summer starts.

Picking Moving Companies

Choosing the right moving company can make all the difference for any move, but for long distance shifts it is even more vital. You absolutely do not want to arrive in a new city, a new state, or worse, a whole new country, to discover that the entire contents of your home have been lost, damaged or stolen.

With so many long distance movers advertising, it can be hard to work out who to go with, but there are certainly some key indicators. However, if on the day of the move you suddenly discover that the sales guy who did your quote and seemed like a really conscientious person, bears little resemblance to the cavalier team of movers currently throwing your grandmothers crystal around like old tires, you can call it quits right there and then. It’s rare, but it does happen, and it is much better to tell them they’re fired, spend the rest of the day loading your gear into a storage unit yourself, than to discover that your feelings about their level of care were correct, when you open your boxes at the other end.

How To Get The Best Firm For Your Needs

The majority of moving firms will have their own niche market. Yes, they can probably move anyone anywhere, anyhow, if they are slow on work that week, but that doesn’t mean they are as good when working outside of their niche. If you are moving long distance, you really want to work with someone who specializes not only in long distance moves, but in residential moves as well, as the there is a vast difference between the requirements of a commercial, retail and industrial company moving that there was with a residential household moving.

Moving firms will generally specialize in either local moves, around down or across the city, in statewide moves which do not cross state lines, in long distance moving which crosses state lines, or international moves. Within these basic categories for distances you will also find that some companies specialize in certain locations. Perhaps moving from the west coast to the east coast is their primary niche because they are able to get a good rate to ship containers of items rather than having to truck them across the country. Or you might find a company that specializes in moving between two specific states, because they have an office in each and run contracts for a major firm, so adding an extra container (see here) to their truck isn’t a big issue.

Of course, “if it is too good to be true, it probably is” still stands when you are looking at the cost of moving. Moving is not cheap, so you should be suspicious of any company that offers a quote significantly lower. Once you have got your quotes in, be sure to sit down and really compare what each company is offering. You might have a difference of a few hundred between two quotes, but when you look closer you find that the cheaper one is going to charge you for bubble wrap, packaging tape and boxes – and once you’d add in their suggestions you find that they are now a few hundred more expensive.

You will also want to make sure that you are aware of the price for any storage on route, or storage at either end of the journey, as this is often an additional extra. If you don’t know exactly when you will need your goods delivered you might want to negotiate a deal for storage, that goes slightly longer term, but otherwise you really need this to be included in the quote.

If you are moving internationally you want to make sure that your company has all the appropriate bio security sorted, and any customs paperwork filled out appropriately. You will also want to make sure that you have a contact person at both ends who can be called upon if there is a problem. If you can, ask the sales person from your moving company to talk you through the process of what will happen at the other end, of if they have someone in the international port who is able to help you understand what will happen and how your goods will arrive in the coun0try, be cleared through customs, and then delivered to your door.

Read Reviews Carefully

Testimonials are wonderful things, and any company should be able to gather a few reviews from happy customers that they can pop-up on their website which give an indication about what their clients have liked about the service that they have provided.

However, you will also want to do a wider search to see what problems people have encountered. Once upon a time the only time you would hear about issues with a particular moving firm would be if one of your friends of family members used them and has a terrible story to tell. The internet allows for anyone to write clear and to the point reviews that spell out exactly where a company went wrong – and sadly it is generally only the bad experiences that make it onto online review sites, so you still need to take these with a grain of salt.

When you are looking at reviews, sort by date rather than star rating. You will sometimes find that there was a spate of really great, or really bad, reviews, and that these have changed. https://support.trustpilot.com/hc/en-us/articles/223402108–8-tips-for-writing-great-customer-reviews Sometimes a change of moving staff, parking staff, quoting staff, or even management can make a huge difference to the entire experience. When you are looking at the reviews take note of where they are similar. Generally, you will find that they all say the same thing, something like the service was friendly and professional, that everything arrived safely because they had it all well package. Or you may find that all the complaints talk about staff that didn’t care, delays in goods arriving, hidden charges that were added on, or excessive breakages.

The reviews should be able to confirm your initial feelings about a company.
