How to Find a Reputable Daycare

December 28, 2021 by Annie

Working while being a parent can be challenging at times, especially when it comes to finding child care providers while you’re at work. The process of finding a reputable daycare can take time, and some may not even know where to start. Let’s go over the steps you should take to find a daycare that you trust.

Is the Facility Licensed Properly?

When learning about a daycare, there are many different licensing elements that you should pay attention to. Of course, the program itself should be licensed since it’s completely illegal to operate a daycare without licensing.

Along with that, you should also look into the director’s degrees, the training process for employees, employee background checks, and more.

It’s an immediate red flag if a daycare does not have to license for every aspect of the program. If this is the case, you may want to inquire further. You can look into this by reading inspection reports and online reviews of the facility. While current employees will most likely talk highly of their workplace, customers with bad experiences are more likely to express their opinions through online reviews.

Ask for Policy Information and Industry Standards

The number of policies, standard rules, and guides for taking care of children is abundant. That said, every daycare should have several different policies in place to maintain a safe childcare facility. Childcare services should never humiliate children or physically harm them as a form of punishment. Similarly, they should have plans for taking care of sick, hurt, or lost children and always have enough adults on site.

Unclear policies and non-existent standards for child care needs are immediate signs that you should look for childcare elsewhere. Your child’s safety should be one of your top priorities, so finding a childcare provider that will keep your child safe and happy is essential.

Schedule a Visit

Make sure to schedule a visit to your daycare before you commit for good. Online, over the phone, and through paperwork, the facility could look amazing. However, you’ll be able to gauge the overall vibes better when you visit the daycare. Here you’ll be able to see how caretakers interact with children, how the building is layed out, and the daily routine of the daycare.

Similarly, you should do research on the actual building structure as well. The workers could be extraordinary, with great policies in place. But, if the building is unsafe, it’s a huge concern for parents. Buildings that were built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, which could potentially affect the health of your child. You can learn about the history by researching the building.

Final Thoughts

While it can be overwhelming to leave your child in someone else’s care for multiple hours a day, you can ease your mind a bit by doing some simple research. Learn about local daycare’s policies and standards, and schedule a visit to see the building for yourself to ensure the ultimate safety of your child.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
