How To Tell If Your Kid Is Vaping?

December 29, 2020 by Annie

The feds that are working with health officials have made a shocking discovery. Many high schoolers and middle schoolers have reported that they have vaped for the past month. The epidemic that plagues youth is continuing to grow as the years are passing.

Vape, Electronic Cigarette, Host, Atomizer, Vapor

If you are a parent, it’s natural to be concerned with your school-age child. Some of them may have been exposed to advertisements and the influence of older children, and you may want to know whether they have tried vaping or not. Statistically speaking, your child may have tried a puff of smoke or two with their friends without you knowing it, so it’s best to start investigating and knowing the truth while it’s still early.

The problem is that the nicotine in vapes can have a huge impact on younger people’s brains. Those who are not yet 25 are still developing their brains, and the kids’ minds will be extremely sensitive to the effects of nicotine. You can know some signs that will tell you if your kid is vaping by visiting sites like https://www.zeptive.com/post/5-warning-signs-your-child-may-be-vaping  and seeking help as early as possible. For many young people, it will take a small amount of drugs to trigger their addiction, and they may not have a good start in life.

Signs to Look For

1. Finding Unfamiliar or Unusual Objects in your Kids’ Room

The vaping devices are always detachable. Their parts may consist of refillable pods where the juice is placed. There are lithium-ion batteries for charging, chargers, atomizers, and coils. You can see what they look like on many websites and blogs on the internet for more information. Finding these things in the bedroom of your kid is a tell-tale sign that they are vaping.

Unfortunately, some manufacturers disguise some of the devices. Many of the brands have achieved success previously by designing the parts to look like USB devices. These hidden mods and parts can be hiding in plain sights as everyday drives that your child says he or she’s using for school. Some companies are now incorporating the designs of markers, pens, and watches to disguise vapes.

2. Sudden Mood Swings, Agitation, and Changes in Behavior

You may want to observe how your kid is acting and see if there are sudden mood swings and irritability when interacting with family and friends. Many studies in the medical field have proven that too much nicotine can diminish the brain’s prefrontal cortex. This cortex is often responsible for regulating impulses, emotions, and decision-making. Read more about the prefrontal cortex on this site here.

If there are impulsivity, aggressiveness, agitation, memory loss, inability to concentrate, and anxiety, it may be time to visit the doctor. Your child may undergo laboratory tests and behavioral assessments to see if he has taken a substance in the past months.

3. Shortness of Breath is Present

Your child may be good at sports, and he is one of the best players on his school’s football team. If he or his teammates tell you that he’s always short of breath or having trouble breathing properly, then this is one of the signs that he may have begun smoking.

Trouble breathing can be due to vaping, as one star of hockey has told the reporters on the news. When he started to vape, he said that he finds it hard to stay on the ice and play even for a minute. He always feels that there’s not enough air around him.

4. Poor Performance in School

If your child has always been an academic performer and you notice their decline, it could be because of some changes brought by nicotine in the brain. Many students who were caught smoking were either suspended from the soccer team or prohibited from attending their classes. An abrupt decline in their grades is an indication that they are undergoing major changes that you should want to know about.

5. Sweet Fragrances

Vape, Electronic Cigarette, Uwell, Tekken, Vaping

The juice can come in chocolate, strawberries, vanilla, and other sweet flavors to make them more appealing to children. Many teens are inclined about the flavored ones because of their sweetness and mellowness.

Smell the cologne or perfume that your teenager is using. If you caught a whiff that reminds you subtly of chocolate, sweets, candies, or fruity aromas, then there’s a chance that they are vaping behind your back.

6. Weight Loss

Some studies prove that nicotine can suppress one’s appetite. With this said, many teenagers may not be too inclined to eat the three main meals of the day. You may also notice that they tend to skip dinner more than usual. If there is weight loss and the kid is not doing any training and weights, it might be time to know the root cause before it’s too late.

7. Vomiting and Nausea

Some adolescents are not used to vaping. If they could take too much of the juice into their systems, they might experience some fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms are common even if weeks have passed. These things are also common with people who frequently vape.

8. Frequent Throat-Clearing and Coughing

Vaping massive amounts of smoke can inflame the oral tissues and mouth cells. This could lead to sores, lesions, tooth decay, and other forms of mouth decay. The smoke can be irritating to the throat, which is why many smokers clear their throats or frequently cough. If you notice these signs, it’s time to talk to your child and understand what’s going on.

Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
