3 Tips For Staying Healthy Well Into Your Old Age

September 24, 2021 by Annie

As much as we might not want to think about it, aging is an inevitable part of life. Rather than letting it catch us by surprise, it’s better that we prepare for it by taking care of our bodies. Getting ill or injured due to old age isn’t exactly the way that you want to spend your retirement.

You can take certain precautions like getting disability insurance, or put aside emergency savings, But ideally, it would be better to not have degrading health at all.

Believe it or not, it’s totally possible to stay healthy far into your older years— here’s how.

Exercise

Exercising isn’t just a great way to look good in your older age, but it’s a great way to feel great too. Keeping your body strong means feeling your best every day instead of feeling like you’re going to topple over. If the idea of going to a gym and lifting heavy weights scares you, don’t worry. Something as minimal as going for a brisk walk every day can make a huge difference in your overall well-being. Try to get into the habit of getting at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day, and you’ll definitely see the benefits.

Eat Sensibly

Everyone loves to cheat on their diet every once in a while. After all, there are some foods that are just plain delicious and you shouldn’t have to live without, for example, ice cream! Yet, you should be sensible when making your diet choices. You can’t exactly eat ice cream every day and expect it not to affect your health.

Make sure that the majority of your diet is filled with plenty of fruits and vegetables and lean proteins. Avoid eating too much fat and your waistline will thank you for it.

Avoid Stress

Believe it or not, stress is more than just an emotion. The amount of stress that you expose yourself to on a daily basis can significantly affect your physical health. From your heart to your skin, stress plays a tremendous role in how your body functions. While you can’t expect everything in life to be perfect all the time, you can limit your exposure to the amount of stress you expose yourself to day in and day out.

Try to surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you, and only spend your time doing things beneficial for your mental health. Anything else could be shaving years off of your life.

While you may not be able to live forever, you can certainly live longer. By following these tips and being cautious about the risks you expose yourself to, you should live a long and healthy life full of plenty of treasured memories.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
