4 Things In Your Home That Could Be Hurting Your Health

April 6, 2020 by Annie

Most people think of their homes as the place they’re safest and most at comfort in. It’s a place to enjoy relaxing after work or having enjoyable times with friends you invite over. However, you may not realize that your health may be negatively affected by things in the place you believed you were safe in: your home.

Take a look at some of the things in your home that could actually be negatively impacting your well-being.

Dust

Most people have a straightforward cleaning system for their homes. It probably involves vacuuming testing mopping and scrubbing surfaces. However, what fewer people do is pull out hard to reach areas and get out the dust from behind or underneath. Many people may not realize that the dust lurking behind places like there headboard or curtains may be accumulating harmful dust.

The problem with dust doesn’t end only with allergy sufferers. Breathing in quality air is something everyone can benefit from. Sometimes dust is full of harmful chemicals from things like cleaning products. When left uncleaned, you will continue to breathe in these harmful chemicals, which could cause problems over time. Experts recommend doing a thorough dusting from ceiling to floor on all parts of your house at least twice a year.

Mold

Mold is something that a lot of people may dismiss as a simple stain or perhaps a bit of dust. However, mold isn’t just unsightly as it accumulates more and more, but it’s also at a threat to cleanliness. Breathing in mold is extremely bad for your lungs and can cause significant problems over time.

Usually, mold accumulates in the bathroom where there’s a lot of moisture. In order to avoid mold building in your bathroom, it’s important to ventilate it. You should invest in a fan or otherwise make sure that you open a window after every shower. For a more powerful solution in problematic areas, use a dehumidifier in places that are frequently moist.

Bacteria

Sometimes the most dangerous things for your health or what we can’t see. Many people don’t realize just how much bacteria accumulates in places they thought were harmless. For example, parts of your kitchen are filled with more microbes and bacteria than your toilet scrubber.

Your sink alone is known to be a breeding ground for all sorts of harmful bacteria. It’s important that you add a sanitizing product at least once every other day to clear out any harmful bacteria. Since your kitchen is the place where you make the food that you feed you and your family, it’s important to keep it as clean as possible.

Clutter

A lot of people consider clutter to be nothing more than a visual problem. However, clutter isn’t just unsightly; it can actually affect your mental health. Studies show that people are in a much calmer state of mind in rooms that are free of clutter and tidied.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
