Get Help With Addiction in Colorado Springs

April 14, 2022 by Annie

There are many avenues to get help with drug addiction, medically called substance use disorder. Having taken the first step of deciding you need assistance with your problem, it’s time to decide how you want to tackle it. There is no right or wrong path as long as it takes you toward your goal.

While you can do things such as using search engines to look for your treatment options, it can be overwhelming. Making sure to enter specific keywords, such as Sunshine Behavioral Health Colorado Springs, will ensure you find results better suited to your area. Here are some of your basic treatment options and reasons you may want to choose them.

Treatment Centers

A treatment center, such as a hospital or specialized rehabilitation facility, is an excellent option. They usually have a variety of treatment options so you can choose what you believe will help you the most. There are two major differences between most treatment programs: whether they are inpatient or outpatient.

Inpatient Treatment

This kind of treatment takes place while you are staying in the facility. This sort of treatment has you taking a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of life. It allows you to focus on the most important thing at the moment–you and your recovery. While staying here, you’ll receive treatment.

Inpatient treatment is ideal if you don’t have a support network. It will allow you to get away from people, places, and objects that might interfere with your recovery. This will start the process of breaking the habits that are doing you harm. The staff and other patients become a support system for you, and will help you build up new habits to assist you with your sober life.

Inpatient treatment can be expensive. If you have a job you must attend in order to support a family, then this may not be your best option. It may also be more convenient to live at home if you have family and friends to support you. However, if you’ve tried and failed Outpatient treatment this could be your next step.

Outpatient

This kind of treatment takes place with visits to a treatment facility. This treatment type has you taking a break during your busy week to take time for yourself. You still get the time to focus on your recover and your health, but your entire life does not have to pause. You will still receive treatment for your addiction here.

When you have a team of loved ones rooting for your recovery, outpatient treatment is very effective. You’ll start learning how to break old habits, then can make immediate changes to your life. This will work best for you if you can’t stop working–it allows you to build your life using multiple avenues and care for family.

While less expensive than inpatient therapy, outpatient therapy can have a higher relapse rate than in patient therapy. This therapy works best for people who can get help to get out of their old situation and those who discontinue relationships and habits that influence you to get back into the old habits you want to break. When you have a vehicle and the means to drive it or live in a place with robust public transit, this may be a good option.

Group Therapy

Often you can find groups that can support your journey during your recovery. This option works well with rehabilitation treatment, and is often recommended for those coming out of rehab programs. With these kinds of groups, you can expand your social support system with people who are going through the same thing you are, as well as mentors who will be a shoulder to lean on when the going gets tough.

While many groups exist for those recovering from all kinds of addictions, these aren’t the only types of group therapies to consider. Often, mental or even physical disability can be a triggering factor. Past trauma can also play a role, be it from childhood, other abuse, or even combat and other kinds of violence. Finding a group that can connect you to others who are struggling with the above mentioned issues will help just as much as groups for addiction support.

Individual, Couple’s, and Family Therapy

Sometimes talking to a professional can help more than talking in a group setting. While Group Therapy can give you common ground and a sense of belonging, seeking help from a mental health professional can help you sort out issues. Individual counseling is a way to work with someone to identify your past traumas and memories and help you sort out the issues that underlie your addition.

At the same time, addiction hurts those around you. Sometimes you will need to talk to someone with your significant other or your whole family unit. Trust will need to be reestablished with your loved ones and help them with their feelings and the damage left over from your addiction. This is sometimes also part of inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation.

After you yourself, your loved ones are very close to you and addiction damages those relationships. Some of these are salvageable, but will never be the same. Sometimes, addiction may mean that you lose your relationship with someone for good. It’s important that you keep this in mind when you go into further therapy.

Final Thoughts

Remember that recovery and rehabilitation from a substance addiction takes time. Sometimes, relapse is part of that. That doesn’t mean you have entirely failed. That just means that it takes time to recover, and that you may have to employ new strategies. There’s nothing wrong with going to inpatient rehab after an outpatient program.

You’re going to make it. It’s a long road ahead and it might be one of the hardest struggles in your life, but you will make it through.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
