Different Bunk Bed Ideas to Explore

October 8, 2019 by Annie

With their practical use of space and attractive design, bunk beds are becoming a popular choice for families that have more than one child or don’t have a lot of bedroom space. From standard bunk beds to study lofts and everything in between, there are a variety of options for families searching for a bunk bed. When you are searching for the best option in the market, you shouldn’t forget to consider your needs as well as that of your kids, the space you have and how much you are willing to spend. Some of the different bunk bed ideas you can explore are:

  • Basic bunk bed

First and foremost, you have the option of going with the standard bunk bed, which comprises of two beds, one over the other. It can be a twin bed over another one or a twin bed over a full sized one. If needed, you can separate the bunk beds later on and use them as twin beds.

  • Futon bunk bed

This particular design has a lofted bed over a futon. In most cases, a twin sized lofted bed is used, but you can also go with the full option if you like. This design is considered multipurpose because during the day time, the futon can serve as a couch. If required, it is also possible to open up a futon for providing another sleeping surface. This is a good idea if it is a smaller room and you need floor space during the day or when you are having a sleepover.

  • Murphy bunk beds

If you are in search of unique bunk beds, this option will be right up your alley. Put simply, these beds can be opened up at night when kids have to sleep and can be folded into the wall during the day when space is needed for other activities. There are both horizontal and vertical designs available and they can double as a desk or storage space during the day.

  • L-shaped bunk beds

This is a variation of the standard bunk bed. The same amount of sleeping space is available in this option, but in a different configuration. The lofted bed is at a right angle to the bottom bed, which means more floor space is required. Therefore, it is a good option when you are not getting bunk beds for space saving purposes.

  • Novelty bunk beds

These are also a unique and popular option because they add a different touch altogether. These beds can center around a theme, such as from a popular book or theme, or they can simply have bright colors. These bunk beds are aimed at younger children so they are also lower in height and they can also have play features, such as tents or slides.

  • Study lofts

They are a wonderful option for older children. It is possible to fit more in a restricted area with this kind of option, which leaves the rest of the room free for other activities. Some of these lofts are very elaborate and have a complete study area.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
