Very Useful Common-Sense Security Tips To Protect Your Home

January 23, 2020 by Annie

Although many will tell you differently, home security is not that complicated. There are always many different things you can do to protect your home and make it more secure. Countless no-brainer approaches help homeowners to drastically increase the security of their property. This is what we will talk about in the following paragraphs.

Install Fake Security Cameras

Burglars do not want to be caught on camera when they steal something from a home. Such evidence would easily lead to a conviction. This is why they target homes that do not have cameras or security systems.

If you do not have money to buy security cameras, you can always go for some fake ones. This is enough to keep most possible burglars away from your property. However, this does not mean you can buy any fake camera. Go for those that look as authentic as possible. You can even buy some broken security cameras that are so much cheaper and are thrown away by former users.

Make Sure There Is Enough Light Present At Night

This does not mean you should leave lights on during the night. It means that you should have light outside of your property. This is especially needed for entry points like the front door and the garage door. You can also light the area outside windows.

The reason why light helps a lot is that people might be able to see intruders that want to go into the property. Burglars love dark areas with close to zero visibility when it comes to entering homes. Remember that they need to force locks or break windows to actually enter the home. Doing this in full visibility is never a good idea for a thief.

When you are worried about electricity bills, just install lights that are activated by a motion sensor.

Be Careful Who Enters Your Home

Burglars often use ruses in order to get to see what is inside the home before actually trying to steal from it. A great way to stop thieves is to remove all visibility points so that nobody can know what is present indoors.

Make sure that you check credentials for every single person that enters the property. This includes something really simple like electricians and plumbers. For instance, when you have a plumbing problem, you would contact something like blocked drains plumber Canberra Fix It Right. If you let a random plumber come into the home as you met in a bar, you might have unwillingly invited a burglar into your home.

Get A Dog

Just like mentioned above, burglars want access to homes that are really easy to enter. At the same time, they do not want to be faced with opposition once they are in. This is where a dog can easily help. His simple presence is enough to keep people out, even if the dog is really small since he/she would bark when an intruder is around. Guard dogs are even better but they are usually larger and not great for all possible families.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
