Basic Guide To Motorcycle Helmet and Jacket

December 25, 2018 by Annie

If you are allowed to choose only one piece of motorcycle safety gear, you should choose the motorcycle helmet. It is the most importance piece of safety gear that protects your head and your brain from fatal injury, and could greatly reduce the risk of death in the event of an accident. When choosing motorcycle helmets, the safety features should be your top priority. When buying cheap motorcycle helmets, always check for the required safety features.

The helmet is designed to protect the rider’s head and brain. Helmet with face visor protects the face and eyes from flying particles, and weather element e.g. rain, wind, and sun glare. The following are some of the helmets available in the market.

  1. A full face helmet is designed to cover and protect the entire head. A full face helmet keeps out the wind and helps to block the glaring sun. A full face helmet should have adequate ventilation. Look for helmet with removable and washable liners to avoid smelly sweaty odour.
  2. An open face helmet is designed to protect the head and ears. It has no chin bar and does not offer protection for the face.
  3. A modular helmet is a cross between a full face and an open face helmet. This helmet has a chin bar which can be flipped up and raised out of the way. Some modular helmets include a flip down sun visor, vents, and removable liners.
  4. A half size helmet also known as the brain buckets only covers and protects the top of the rider’s head and leaves the face, ears, and chin uncovered.

The next most important item on the safety gear list is the motorcycle jacket. When buying motorcycle clothing, you will need to pay attention to the safety features. There are two types of motorcycle jacket. You can either choose a one piece or a two piece motorcycle suit. A one piece suit gives full body protection. A two piece suit consists of a motorcycle jacket and pants. The two piece suit offers more flexibility to the wearer.

The performance of the jackets, regardless of whether expansive or cheap motorcycle jackets, depends on the quality and type of material used. High quality leather offers better resistance against abrasion and better protection in case of an accident. Jackets are also made of a combination of leather and synthetic fabric. The synthetic fabric offers better comfort with extra ventilation. The leather is for covering the most vulnerable parts of the body e.g. the upper back, shoulder and arms.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
