How to Pass a Test With Flying Colors: 5 No-Fail Tips for Students of All Ages

May 5, 2021 by Annie

Passing a test can be nerve-wracking, not to mention it can feel like cracking a code.

If you’re trying to decipher the important points from your teacher’s lectures and your own notes, we have some strategies that can help.

The five tips below will help you learn how to pass a test and earn the grade you want.

1. Study Early and Often

One of the best test-taking tips is to start studying as soon as possible. Review your notes after class and take a little time to study each weekend. Before a big test, block out time on your calendar to spend time reviewing the material before you have to cram.

The more times you review it, the better you’ll remember the material when it’s time for the test. One way to review your notes is to copy them over more neatly after class. If you do this soon after you’ve taken them, you’ll recall more of what you learned and can even add information that you may have missed while taking notes.

2. Take a Course

Sometimes we all need a little help from a professional. Studying on your own can be difficult, so engaging the help of a teacher can give you the right skills to make your own studying more productive.

Sign up for this course to help you learn how to pass your test with flying colors.

3. Use Your Taste Buds

One of the best triggers for memory is taste. If you chew gum while you study, make sure you take the same flavor of gum with you to the test.

Chew the gum and your brain will associate the flavor with the memories of what you studied. This is one way to use science to your advantage to help you pass a test. It’s even been used to help patients with dementia improve their memory.

4. Listen to Yourself

One helpful way to pass any exam is to study out loud. Reserve a meeting room or enclosed space at the library so you can talk to yourself without disturbing other patrons. Read your notes and repeat them to yourself.

This means you’re reading the words with your eyes as well as hearing the material with your ears. It helps create stronger memories and gives you a better chance of remembering them later.

5. Take Breaks

Studying can be stressful. One of the best ways to combat that stress is to give yourself a rest. Take time to relax in between study sessions.

Wear comfortable clothes and have a favorite treat. You can also try stretching or a brief yoga session to help your body find relief.

Now You Know How to Pass a Test!

Figuring out how to pass a test can be a real challenge, but with the tips above you’ll be able to study smarter. Learn the material well when you start early, take a study course, use all your senses, and take breaks.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
