3 Ways To Divorce-Proof Your Marriage

March 14, 2020 by Annie

While being married isn’t always going to be easy, there are things you can do within your marriage and your relationship that can make it a little easier to get through some of the more challenging times. So to help reduce the chances of your marriage ending in divorce, here are three ways you can divorce-proof your marriage.

Don’t Neglect Physical Intimacy

Although all forms of intimacy are important in a marriage, physical intimacy can be one that many couples overlook as their lives get busier with kids, work, and other responsibilities. But if you want to have a happy and healthy marriage, it’s vital that you don’t neglect this part of your relationship.

According to James J. Sexton, a contributor to Psychology Today, physical intimacy is more than just sex. When you’re physically intimate with your spouse, you show them and yourself that you’re attracted to and content with them. And when you’re getting this fulfillment from your marriage, there will be no reason for you to seek it through other relationships. So even if things in this area aren’t as exciting as they once were, by committing to this area of your marriage, you can rebuild or continue to build upon this aspect of your relationship.

Make Your “Hellos” and “Goodbyes” Meaningful

Often, it’s the small things that you and your spouse do each day for each other that can make a positive difference in your relationship.

One of these things, according to Jillian Kramer, a contributor to Brides.com, is to make your “hellos” and “goodbyes” meaningful. To do this, you and your spouse should be sure that you take a few moments together before you’re going to be parting or once you’re reunited. Even if you’ll only be apart for a few hours, it’s good to set the mood when you get back together by showing your spouse just how happy you are to see them again.

Deal With Issues Promptly

In many marriages, it’s not big things that happen or don’t happen that cause the downfall of their relationship. Often, it’s the small issues that come up on a daily basis that don’t get dealt with that can build up to make your marriage hard.

To combat this, Charlotte Hilton Andersen, a contributor to RedbookMag.com, recommends that you and your spouse agree to address the small issues you have with one another or within your marriage before you allow them to become big issues. If you’re able to do this, you’ll be able to have a much smoother marriage over the span of your life together.

If you want to give your marriage the best chance of surviving, consider using the tips mentioned above to divorce-proof your marriage.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
